Many businesses were already very familiar with Microsoft Teams before the global pandemic hit. Others hastily started using it when they needed a remote communication tool due to home working.
However, Teams is so much more than a method of holding online meetings. It’s a comprehensive collaborative tool that helps groups of people work together, communicate and share items such as documents and videos. Work areas are split into Teams, and then into Channels within those Teams.
It is estimated that there are now almost 300 million users of Microsoft Teams worldwide and the way that different people and different businesses have it set up, varies widely.
Here are some tips which could make your day easier and save you time:
- Pin your important Teams and Channels. Keep the things you need to access most often, at the top of the list. To do this, click the three-dot (More options) icon to the right of the Team or Channel name and select Pin.
- Put your Teams and Channels into your preferred order in the list by dragging and dropping them into place.
- Standardise your Channels across different Teams. Use the same titles where possible, so that people get familiar with what to look for where. Don’t have too many Channels within any one Team and limit the number of people who can create new Channels.
- De-clutter your list by hiding Teams or Channels that are low priority for your current work tasks. To do this, click the three-dot icon to the right of the Team or Channel, then select Hide.
- Follow Channels that are currently most important to you, so that you are updated on activities in those Channels as they happen. To do this, click a Team name to see its Channels, hover over the Channel you want, select Channel notifications, then All activity.
