This month sees the launch of Windows 365 – a new “PC-as-a-service” offering that allows users to stream a Windows desktop to any of their devices, at any location.
Available with the Windows 10 Operating System (and in the future Windows 11), this new virtualisation service is designed for businesses of all sizes. Microsoft is promoting it as bringing efficiencies in terms of cost, administration and productivity.
Instead of hosting the Operating System and applications locally, with Windows 365 users will stream their apps, data and settings to any of their devices. This means that you get a high-performance experience even when using lower-performance hardware.
With so many workers now splitting their time between different locations (eg. home and office), this is an ideal solution. Windows 365 makes it really simple to switch between devices, because it maintains consistency across all PCs, laptops or tablets – including those that run on macOS, Linux or Android. The user just picks up where they left off last time.
There is generally less need for IT administration, whilst the highest levels of cyber security are still maintained.
