There has recently been another surge in text scams relating to parcel collections, including one that takes you to a very convincing fake Royal Mail page.
When it comes to email scams, business owners in particular should be wary of a message purporting to be from HM Revenue & Customs. This dodgy email says that your Online Business Profile is not up to date and claims to provide a link to your ‘Government Gateway Online Account’. In fact, the link takes you to a Phishing website.
If you do have a Government Gateway account that you think might need updating, you should only ever enter personal details by logging in with your existing known credentials – not by clicking on a link in an email or text.
You can report HMRC impersonation emails by forwarding them to phishing@hmrc.gov.uk with a subject line describing the email, such as ‘scam HMRC email.’
