Apple announces new iPhone

On September 7th, Apple’s event brought us news of the new Series 8 and Ultra Apple Watch, re-engineered AirPods Pro, and as predicted in our recent article (here) the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

We were greeted by Tim Cook outside the Apple HQ with the usual excitement we have become to expect and the statement that with the new iPhone – Apple have ‘gone big’!  Apart from the expected faster processors and more camera improvements, the key new features that we believe are worth a mention are :

  • Apple Watch Series 8 now has temperature sensors, and car crash detection
  • Apple Watch Ultra is a completely re-designed watch made for rugged conditions to withstand extreme conditions
  • AirPods Pro have improved noise cancellation and battery life
  • iPhone 14 Plus has all day battery life and is super sized (6.7”) and car crash detection
  • iPhone 14 Pro has a new notification system with labelled ‘Dynamic Island’

The one ‘stand out’ piece of brand new technology that was presented came in the form of the ability to communicate with satellites when the device is out of reach of normal mobile signal.

Designed as an emergency backup for users that visit extreme places, the phone can take you through a process of communicating your position and some key information to allow emergency services to find and rescue you – (available in November, in the USA only at first)
