What can we expect from Apple next month?

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference recently brought us lots of software updates for their popular devices, including the new iPhone iOS 18 with Apple Intelligence (AI).  The next event is expected to take place next month – a likely date being 10th September.

This is the event at which new models of iPhone and Apple Watch are usually announced and this year, updated AirPods may feature too.

Whilst details are supposedly secret until the event itself, there is often some leaked information upfront, triggering speculation about what is going to be announced. This year’s speculation includes:

  • iPhone 16 and 16+. Key changes are expected to be around the camera, including the Action button that came with the iPhone 15 Pro. Also a “Capture” button to improve the ease of taking videos, and an upgraded A-series chip – the A18.
  • iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. As well as featuring the upgraded camera and chip, it is rumoured that these models will have larger screen sizes – 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively.
  • Apple Watch X / Apple Watch Series 10. This year sees the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the Apple Watch and it is expected that all models will be upgraded. This may include a thinner design, and the introduction of new health features such as blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnoea detection.
  • Air Pods 4. A fourth-generation version of AirPods is apparently being worked on, with possible features including improved Active Noise Cancellation technology, a case with USB-C charging and speakers for Find My alerts. There is even speculation that hearing aid functionality will be included, allowing AirPods serve as an alternative to a traditional hearing aid.
