As in previous years, Apple chose the month of September to launch its latest iPhones.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are both accompanied by larger sized options of “Plus” and “Pro Max”. We take a look at some of the key features of the new devices:
- Dimensions. These are unchanged from the iPhone 14 family, with the same 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes in both the base and upgraded models.
- Charging ports. All models of iPhone 15 feature USB-C ports for charging and transferring data over a cable. This marks the end of Apple’s Lightning cable, which has been around since the iPhone 5. iPhone 15 comes with a braided white USB-C to USB-C cable in the box, but no power adapter.
- Charging speed. Apple says that users can expect a 50% charge in around 30 minutes, with a 20W adapter.
- Faster, more efficient chips.
- Accessory charger. The iPhone 15 can be used as a charging bank for your AirPods or Apple Watch. Simply plug a compatible cable into each end and siphon some of the phone charge to an accessory.
- Dynamic Island. First introduced with the iPhone 14, the Dynamic island is a small pill-shaped cut-out which surrounds the front-facing camera. It replaces the “notch” seen in older models and will change shape and size to display alerts and notifications.
- Colour-infused frosted glass back. Available in pink, yellow, green, blue, and black.
- Better cameras with longer zooms. The iPhone 15 gets the same 48-megapixel main camera that was introduced into last year’s Pro models but has additional enhancements to improve the quality of images and videos.
- The iPhone 15 Pro has a new “Action” button. The mute button is replaced by an “Action” button which does the same as the mute toggle (switching between ring and silent) but it can be configured to do other things too, including launching the camera, recording a voice memo, triggering a shortcut, and enabling an Accessibility feature.
