A survey has recently been carried out with UK small businesses, to identify the effect of technology over the last two to three years.
Many smaller companies said that before the pandemic, their under-use of technology had held them back. Now, however, technology is at the heart of their operations and business planning.
This is particularly noticeable in the South of England, where around 80% of business owners said that their digital capabilities had improved.
Necessity was obviously the initial trigger, as businesses had to introduce efficient ways of enabling staff to work from home. For some, this meant investment in new technology.
However, many of those taking part in the survey said that having changed the way they use technology, they now see the following benefits:
- Reduced travel time to and from client meetings
- Faster and better customer service
- Improved productivity
- Reduced overheads
- A smarter and safer way to store and manage sensitive information
- Less time spent in internal meetings
