Avoid “staggeringly expensive” printer ink

You may have seen recent media reports about a study by the consumer watchdog “Which?” into the cost of printer inks.

The survey was carried out on 10,000 consumers who own inkjet printers, half of whom said they used their printer at least once a week.

The study reported that some printer ink was “staggeringly” expensive – and included examples where ink was more costly than the equivalent quantity of some champagnes!

What is surprising, then, is the number of businesses purchasing printers and then spending out on ink cartridges on a regular basis. Although the printer itself may have been a relatively inexpensive purchase, the cost of ink (and in some instances the cost of replacement parts) make this arrangement a false economy.

What can you do instead?

A printer with a support contract tends to be the preferred option in the business world. The printer can range from a small desktop machine to one of the large copier/printer devices – but the way the support contract works is the same.

With an HJS Technology printer support contract, the costs are very transparent. A monthly payment is made, calculated from the number of pages printed by the device in the previous month.

In return for that monthly fee, ink is replaced as required, and if there are any problems with the machine itself, the fee also covers the cost of an engineer’s visit and any replacement parts that may be needed.
