Microsoft has announced that it is increasing the size of file that can be uploaded into SharePoint, Teams and OneDrive.
Up to now, the file size limit has been 100GB which, whilst more than adequate for most documents and spreadsheets, was restrictive for some other types of file including videos and high resolution graphics.
The new limit will be 250GB, which will be welcomed by users who need to store and share video files, AutoCAD items (especially multi-layer files) and 3D visualisations using tools such as SolidWorks.
Microsoft says that it is making these change to acknowledge the increase in remote working and learning. The increased upload limit has been achieved by splitting each file into chunks, with each piece encrypted with a unique key.
Support for the new 250GB file size upload will roll out by the end of January, and Microsoft expects general availability of the new limit by end of this quarter.
